Jim Anthony Allen started strong with 7 hits and 8 runs in the first two innings, but could only manage 1 additional hit and no runs for the remainder of the game as the East defense settled in and made the plays. Kelley Hendrick made several nice grabs at third base and Nickie Champion made a spectacular catch in left field preventing Allen from scoring further as bases were loaded. East battled back from an 8 to 3 deficit, scoring 1 run in the 2nd and 4 in the 3rd to tie the game at 8 apiece. Both teams scrambled base runners in the 4th and 5th innings, but neither could produce additional runs ending the game in a tie.
Offensively, Emily Griffin was 3 for 3 at the plate with 2 SB’s, 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Elexis Reyes was 2 for 2, scoring both times. Kate Newman hit a solo home run over the left field wall and Destiny Garza hit a shot to center field for a double w/an RBI, 1 SB and scored twice. Kelley Hendrick had a hit scoring twice and 3 SB’s. Nickie Champion and Jacqui Morales each had singles as well.
